During our recent Seminar Week, Mechanics for Africa had the privilege of welcoming Alexander Ingram, a skilled automotive technician from the United Kingdom who works with Intertek and has hands-on experience with Tesla and Mercedes-Benz. Alexander travelled thousands of miles to Ndola to spend time with our Year 2 Mechanics students, introducing them to the fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (EVs).
While EVs remain relatively uncommon on Zambia’s roads, interest is growing rapidly—especially following the removal of import duties on electric vehicles. Exposure to this technology at such an early stage equips our students with knowledge that is increasingly valuable within a changing automotive industry.
Alexander’s decision to invest his time and expertise in our students speaks volumes. Moments like these demonstrate the power of global generosity and professional collaboration: skilled individuals choosing to share their knowledge to prepare the next generation of mechanics. And for Alexander, Ndola’s warm sunshine was certainly a welcome change from the British skies.
